Halloween Wars
For my Food Network Show I watched Halloween wars. It is a four episode series. In these series, there are five teams. In these five teams is a cake decorator, pumpkin carver, and a candy maker. The teams compete against each other to see who has the best skills in making Halloween treats. One team is eliminated each week and the winner takes home $50,000. Shinman Li, Miles Teves, and a celebrity guest are the judges on this show. I thought it was really cool that each team got to pick their own scary name.
This show showed more of the behind the scenes work and struggles of making something themed and extravagant. It showed how difficult it is to work with melted sugar and to for it into things. one team was trying to make an hourglass and they kept trying, but they never successfully made one without it breaking. They had to compromise their sculpture so that instead of the hourglass being whole, it was broken. This series also showed difficulty in carving pumpkins, even for professionals. One team was attempting to carve a dragon out of the pumpkin, but failed to do so. If one wrong cut is made, then the sculpture may result in breaking or being ruined.
Teams were given a specific theme, such as, ghosts and goblins, and had to create a sculpture of their take on it. There were multiple levels. Starting off with the "small scare." The small scare was more of a warm up for the teams. It gives them a chance to make something for the judges and get critiqued for it. No one gets eliminated in this round. In the next round the teams are told to make a sculpture according to the theme and they have to include a treat that they made into it. One team was doing a circus sculpture, so they made a clown handing out peanuts with little kids. They made their own circus peanuts. They made home made peanut butter and covered in chocolate, put in a peanut shaped mold. Halloween Wars is an amazing horror tale made out of cake, candy, and pumpkins.
